Chatham’s main harbor is certainly not immune to the challenges of Mother Nature; with town officials every year concerned about the damage left from winter and spring storms, this year being no exception. In fact, area leaders are well aware of the difficulties that local commercial fishing vessels are still having in navigating the opening made in the barrier beach during a 1987 storm.

It’s sometimes dangerous to enter Chatham Harbor, and some vessels are doing their best to avoid what’s been called one of the East Coast’s most dangerous ports. Several actually switched to using Saquatucket Harbor over in Harwich this winter season.

While not all experts agree, some feel that it may only be a matter of time before fishermen will no longer be able to get

academy playhouse orleans ma

A staple in the Orleans community for generations, the Academy Playhouse continues to entertain locals and visitors to this day, the same as it has for the past several decades on Cape Cod. What originally began as the Arena Theater, started in 1950 by a couple that had recently settled on the Cape, has grown substantially over the years, now offering performances, classes and workshops.

The theater began with the vision of bringing live theater to the community, making it an attractive destination for aspiring actors with 10 plays each summer. About a decade later town leaders offered up the old Town Hall building, and the theater took off. The setting was designed as a circle, allowing the audience to be as close as possible to the actors.

nauset light beach

At one-mile long, Nauset Light Beach remains one of the Outer Cape’s most popular beaches, a long-standing tradition for year-round residents and seasonal visitors to the Cape. With breathtaking scenery and fabulous surfing, the beach is often at the top of the list when it comes to regional destinations.

Found on Ocean View Drive in Eastham, Nauset Light Beach is actually a part of the National Seashore, with large waves ideal for boogie boarding and surfing. While the mile-long beach appears large it is actually small when compared to other seashore-area beaches, located only about a mile to the north of Coast Guard Beach.

Families with older children find it a great location for catching a wave or simply lounging on the clean sand. Visitors also enjoy

elijah cobb house brewster ma

The Cape is full of history, and that history is on full display at the Elijah Cobb House. First constructed in 1799, the former sea captain’s home now serves as the very first permanent museum for the Brewster Historical Society. The space is a half-century in the making, as the society has been around for 50-years, yet never had its own permanent museum space until now.

When first built the location was part of Harwich, a home for the seaman who spent his days traveling the globe. Family members lived in the home until the early 1940s when it was sold and renovations were made. By the time the society took possession of the home it was in need of repairs once again.

Purchased for $575,000 in 2014, the society put another $365,000 into renovations, paid
