While Provincetown enjoys a rich history all its own, these days the area is becoming just as well known for its natural amenities and charm as its past virtues. That’s because the sleepy town of generally just a few thousand full-time residents now holds the title of America’s Favorite Beach Town.

Provincetown beat out hundreds of other locations all across the United States to top the list, the only town in the entire Cape Cod region to even place in the top 15. Towns were ranked based on categories ranging from things like great food to friendly local residents. Voted on by Travel and Leisure readers, area residents helped promote just a few of the things that make Provincetown such a great location to live and to visit, from the sandy shores of area beaches to the vibrant downtown shops and lively entertainment offerings.

Noted for hosting tens of thousands of people during the warm summer months, Provincetown’s Race Point Beach, part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, is displayed as a real draw of the community, as are the downtown galleries along Commercial Street. In the evenings, the town comes alive with dancing and live performances.

It’s the beaches, though, that give Provincetown some of the best reasons to make the list. From the sand dunes, surf and bike trails of Race Point to the stunning sunsets and rocky shoreline of Herring Cove Beach, the town has plenty to offer it’s full-time residents and it’s summertime guests.

It’s easy to go for a stroll during low tide or simply dip your toes in the sand and cool, refreshing water. Surrounded by spectacular views and natural scenery, Provincetown lives up to its calling as the nation’s top beach town, great for sun-filled summer days and relaxing moments on the tip of Cape Cod.
