wianno club - osterville ma

With a rich history dating back to the late 1800s, the Wianno Club is a true Osterville historic landmark. Now the site of frequent gatherings, celebrations and even weddings, the club celebrates more than a century overlooking Nantucket Sound and even has a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Cotocheset House, now the main clubhouse of the Wianno Club, sits on land once purchased by Plymouth settlers from the Native Americans, later used as the site of a grand summer hotel for wealthy vacationers. While modernized over the years, the charm of yesteryear is still evident at the Wianno Club. After all, the private and seasonal member-owned club has served its guests for a period that now spans four generations.

chatham harbor

A favorite destination for its impressive scenery, great fishing and amazing beaches, Chatham also holds the distinction of serving boaters with not one, but two harbors. The twin harbors consist of Chatham Harbor in the east and Stage Harbor in the south, both providing distinct services to boaters in the Cape Cod area.

Chatham Harbor is home to a majority of the region’s local fishing boats, plus offers up access to Pleasant Bay and the Atlantic. It’s not always a simple destination for small boats as numerous winter storms have changed the coastline here, sometimes making conditions a bit dangerous before entering. For this reason boaters are encouraged to really watch out for channel markers, especially around Chatham Harbor.

Still, though, Chatham

monomoy point lightWith nearly two centuries of history attached to Cape Cod, improvements at Monomoy Point Light aim to make the lighthouse more accessible to the public for possible generations to come. Located at the tip of Chatham’s Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, the lighthouse dates back to the 1800s, but most recently had only been available for research by scientists and employees of the refuge.

That all changed when renovation crews began to install things like new drywall on the inside of the property and a wrap-around deck on the outside. In May of this year the Coast Guard airlifted the last of the supplies and materials necessary for a project focused on renovating the lighthouse and keeper’s cottage.

A joint venture of the wildlife refuge, town of Chatham,

saquatucket harbor harwich portPlans are in the works to make improvements in the area of Saquatucket Harbor.  This popular Harwich Port is one of three active harbors in the town, popular for both recreational purposes and commercial use.  Located on the southern shore, the harbor provides floating boat docks and slips, boat lunching, parking and access to Nantucket Sound.

Because there are only a few good harbors located on the southern side of Cape Cod, slip space is at a premium.  The waiting list for slips at Saquatucket Harbor is usually between 12 to 15 years.  The Saquatucket Marina can currently accommodate sailboats, motorboats, a passenger ferry, charter fishing boats and a small fleet of commercial fishing boats.  The marina is open recreationally from May 1-November 15, and
